I haven’t sat down to read many books over the last several years, but audiobooks have become an enjoyable part of my 45-minute daily commute. This list includes a mix of entertainment and personal growth. I’ve listened to quite a few John Grisham books, and The Guardians is my favorite. I also enjoy military and combat stories, so Razor 03 stood out because it offered a pilot’s perspective. I read Crucial Conversations and The Defining Decade earlier in my twenties, and both were good growth books for me. The Defining Decade especially helped me think about my priorities and shaped some of my decisions through my mid-to-late twenties. More recently, I’ve been focusing on leadership and self-improvement through The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. I don’t expect to be great at all 21 laws, but I want to find specific areas where I can improve and put those lessons into practice.
Good Inside is next because I recently became a father, and I want to learn strategies that could help me be the best father I can be to my son. I know nobody has parenting completely figured out, but I’m interested in hearing different approaches and finding ideas that work for my family. After that, I plan to listen to Turn the Ship Around! I’ve heard good things about it, and its focus on leadership interests me. I like being someone who can take a difficult situation and help make it better, so I’m hoping to find practical ideas I can apply in my own life. These two books fit what matters most to me right now: growing as a father and becoming a better leader.
